	જે દરદ પર જય પામીને દુ:ખપ્યાલો લે મુખમાંય;
	જે ધૈર્ય રાખી ઊંચકે સ્તંભ તે તેની પૂઠે જાય.
૨	મરણની પેલી પાર જઈ પહોંચી સાક્ષીની આંખ;
	પ્રભુની નભમાં જોઈને સહાયની મારી હાંક;
	થઈ પ્રભુ જેવો ક્ષમાવાન, સહી વેદના મોત લગ કાય,
	શત્રુને માટે માગે માફ : કોણ તેની પૂઠે જાય ?
૩	એક ગૌરવી મંડળ નીવડેલ, જે પર આત્મા આવ્યો,
	તે મંડળે જાણી નિજ આશ, મોત-સ્તંભને તુચ્છકાર્યો;
	ક્રૂર ભૂપની તેજી તરવાર, ને કેસરી સિંહ પાસ લેવાય,
	નમાવ્યું શિર મોત ભોગવવા : કોણ તેની પૂઠે જાય ?
૪	નર, નારી, બાળો, બાળિકા, એક મોટા સેનમાં વાસ,
	શ્વેત વસ્ત્ર પહેરી હરખે છે ત્રાતાના આસન પાસ;
	જે માર્ગ ઊંચો સ્વરનો છે તે શ્રમ, પીડામાં થઈ જાય;
	હે પ્રભુ, સહુ પર કૃપા કર કે તેઓ પૂઠે જાય.

1	The Son of God goes to battle to receive the royal crown
	The blood-red banner waves afar: who goes after Him?
	Who, gaining victory over pain, takes the cup of sorrow to the lips;
	Who keeps courage and lifts the cross, that one goes after Him.
2	Going beyond death, the eye of witness arrives;
	Seeing the Lord in heaven, my cry for help;
	Becoming forgiving like the Lord, bearing pain even unto death,
	Asks pardon for the enemy: who goes after Him?
3	A glorious company was chosen, upon which the Spirit came,
	That company, knowing its own hope, despised the death-cross;
	The fierce king's sharp sword, and being taken near the tawny lion,
	Bowed the head to suffer death: who goes after Him?
4	Men, women, boys, girls, dwelling in one great army,
	Wearing white garments, they rejoice near the Savior's throne;
	That path of lofty sound comes through toil and suffering;
